RECALL
Recall: The power of the electorate (registered voters) to remove a local elected official for loss of confidence through the holding of a special/recall election, before the end of term of office.
Modes of initiating recall
Recall is initiated by a petition of registered voters in the local government unit concerned, subject to the signature requirements in Section 70 of the Local Government Code, as amended by RA 9244.
Conduct of Recall Election:
- The official sought to be recalled is automatically considered a duly registered candidate.
- COMELEC shall set the recall election not later than 30 days after the filing of the petition for recall for a barangay, city, or municipal official, and not later than 45 days for a provincial official.
