Effects of Adoption

Severance of all legal ties between the biological parents and the adoptee and the same shall then be vested on the adopters EXCEPT in cases where the biological parent is the spouse of the adopter
Deemed a legitimate child of the adopter
Acquired reciprocal rights and obligations arising from parent-child relationship
Right to use surname of the adopter
An illegitimate child adopted by her natural father can use as middle name her mother’s surname. (In re: Astorga Garcia, G.R. No. 1148311, 2005)
