a. Meaning of Authentication
Meaning of authentication
Authentication is the process of proving the due execution and genuineness of the document.
In order to be admissible in evidence, the object sought to be offered must be authenticated, that is, it must be shown to have been the very thing that is the subject matter of the lawsuit or the very one involved to prove an issue in the case.
Authentication is the preliminary step in showing the admissibility of an evidence. (Riano, p. 189)
